Review, Then Plan

Over the past six weeks Lucie at Pegu Design and Liz from Be Seen Online have been working with me to give my website an overdue upgrade. I’m thrilled with the result. But I’m not the one that counts, it's you the visitor, the reader and the surfer who is important. What do you think?

One task I had was to review all the blogs I've written since 2012.

All 232 of them.

I reviewed the text and updated where needed. Links to external experts were checked to make sure they were still there! Every image had to be changed, the tags, the categories, links and some typos too!

I deleted more than 30 blogs; outdated opinion pieces, very old news, underwhelming content or content that isn’t relevant to my coaching and business planning focus.

As part of my review I had a look at page views and most popular blogs, an interesting analysis. You’d be forgiven for thinking that business owners are only looking for ways to save time & money, find more customers and make more money and these ones would be the most popular. Instead I found that blogs talking about planning, clarity, goals, forecasting, etc were the most read articles.

With 10 years successful business coaching behind me, I know that the biggest difference I can make to business owners is planning. I've reviewed my content (blogs, e-books and downloads) and tightened up my focus. My focus is firmly on business planning.  

I want to reach even more ambitious business owners, determined to succeed but recognise that they need some help and are prepared to invest time, effort, and money to succeed.

And I have some big plans coming to do just that: workbooks, checklists, template, webinars, video courses and of course my book, The Grown-Up Business.

I’m successful because my clients are super successful, they achieve their dreams. I’m not a business planning guru but I will continue to be a contributor to the business planning field.

My blog delivers thought provoking content for business owners who are going places that will remain my biggest driver.

Some added bonuses that I uncovered from my 232 blog review....

• I was reminded how much great content I have written – certainly enough for another book!
• Content written 5 or 6 years ago is just as relevant today.
• There is content I can build on and improve, and
• I now have over 300 evergreen tweets. Whilst reviewing the blogs, I wrote new tweets into a spreadsheet and uploaded them into Hootsuite. Lots and lots of future time saved! Lots and lots of future time saved!

After the review, it was time to re-do my blog plan and now time to execute.

• I must continue to challenge myself to always write for my readers.
• Write the answers to their questions.
• Concentrate on my field of expertise: business planning.
